ONE DAY SEMINAR ON- “THE ART OF TALKING” By Adv. Jayant Bhatt
A one day seminar by Hon'ble Advocate Jayant Bhatt, Supreme Court of India was adhered at
New Law College, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune on August 21,2019 on the
proposition "THE ART OF TALKING - ARBITRATION |NEGOTIATION| MEDIATION" organized by MADHYASTATHA the ADR cell of the new law college. The August gathering
included I\C Principal Dr. Bhagyashree Deshpande ma'am of New Law College, the faculty
members and the students of the college.
Advocate Jayant Bhatt is an alumnus of Amity Law School, Noida and has completed his double
master's degree in the field of law from National University of Singapore and New York
University. He has worked with the prestigious firm of Clyde & Co.LLP in Dubai for 2 years.
Our Principal ma'am first initiated the gathering by felicitating sir and stating that alternative
dispute resolution has been witnessed in Mahabharata where Lord Krishna acted as a Mediator
between the Kaurava`s and Pandava`s. Student`s were enlightened about the significant role
played by ADR (Arbitration Dispute Resolution) in the field of law.
Later Sir introduced Arbitration, Negotiation as well as Mediation to be something not so
technical but something that is used by every person on a day-to-day basis. This field of law has
been practiced since time immemorial in different aspects of life time and again.ADR aids and
persuades to bring down the lengthy process of court filing and proceedings. A good Arbitrator
tries to aim for win-win approach for both the parties or tries to resolve the dispute which may
give relief to the aggrieved party impedingly.
The session was an interactive session where students got an opportunity to ask questions which
were duly answered by the speaker. The questions raised involved the working and functioning
of this field of law in the country as compared to other countries, the pros and cons of the recent
amendments brought in the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 2015 as well as reasons for the
failure of Ayodhya mediation etc. These questions were answered by giving reference to various
ongoing cases of the country.
The seminar was concluded by giving a vote of thanks by the members of MADHYASTATHA
to the Hon'ble Advocate Jayant Bhatt and the faculty members and students who helped to make
this seminar a successful and a knowledgeable event and a memento was presented by the I\C
Principal Dr Bhagyashree Deshpande. This seminar aimed to introduce students with this field of
law and students were enlightened to get acquainted with arbitration, mediation and negotiation
as an emerging field of law.
